Applying for Extra Help with Medicare Prescription Drug Plan Costs

Anyone who has Medicare can get Medicare prescription drug coverage. Some people with limited resources and income also may be able to get Extra Help to pay for the costs-monthly premiums, annual deductibles, and prescription co-payments related to a Medicare prescription drug plan. 

 

Assistance Applying for Medicare Savings Program and Extra Help

The MSP is funded by the State Medicaid program. It is also known as the Medicare Buy-In program that helps pay for costs if you are financially limited. The Medicare Savings Program will pay your Part B premium for you each month. 

 

Child Health Plus B
Child Health Plus B is New York State’s health insurance program for children under 19 who are not eligible for Child Health Plus A and do not have private health insurance. A child is eligible for Child Health Plus B if the family income is high or if they are in certain immigration categories.

 

Child Health Plus A 
Child Health Plus A is a free health insurance program that offers children under the age of 19 complete coverage for all of their health care needs. While some people may think of Child Health Plus A as a program for very low-income families, many children in families where one or both parents work are eligible for Child Health Plus A.

EPIC (Elderly Pharmaceutical Insurance Coverage)
EPIC is a New York State sponsored prescription plan for senior citizens who need help paying for their prescriptions. Over 340,000 seniors already belong and are saving, on average, over 80% of the cost of their medicines.

 

Family Health Plus
Family Health Plus is New York State’s health insurance program for adults, ages
19-64, who are not eligible for Medicaid and who either do not have employer based private health insurance or have employer based health insurance where the employee is responsible for 100% of the premium (the employer pays nothing towards the insurance).

Healthy NY
The Healthy NY program is designed to assist small business owners in providing their employees and their employees’ families with the health insurance they need and deserve. In addition, uninsured sole proprietors and workers whose employers do not provide health insurance may also purchase comprehensive coverage directly through the Healthy NY program.

 


Herkimer County Rx Discount Program


Herkimer County has partnered with ProAct, Inc., a regional pharmacy benefit management company, to provide the prescription drug discount program. Participants can save 10 to 20 percent on brand name prescriptions and 20 to 50 percent on generic drugs.

The HCHN has been in existence since 1990. Its membership has continuously expanded and has served as an effective forum for Herkimer County providers to identify, discuss, and resolve health and social service issues and concerns. As a direct result of grants by the New York State Department of Health: Office of Rural Health, the Network significantly increased levels of coordination and collaboration among health and social service providers.
