April 11, 2011

HERKIMER, NY – Herkimer County HealthNet and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) are pleased to offer a FREE comprehensive and community-based Pedestrian Safety Action Plan workshop for municipalities located in Herkimer County. This three-day workshop serves as a tool for examining and prioritizing the engineering, educational and enforcement methods needed to improve pedestrian safety in Herkimer County and enhance existing pedestrian safety programs and policies.

The Pedestrian Safety Action Plan Workshop is a three-day event and is set for Tuesday May 10th through Thursday, May 12th at the Herkimer County Community College Corporate Center, 100 Reservoir Rd., Herkimer, NY. Day 1 will provide an overview and common knowledge base of pedestrian-related issues and is open to those with an interest in or responsibility for their community’s pedestrian safety.

Days two and three will involve a facilitated session of select representatives of various municipalities in Herkimer County who make up the comprehensive working group (engineers, planners, law enforcement, transit, community and public health representatives, etc.). The focus is on discussion, completion, and prioritization of the Pedestrian Safety Action Plan.
